About Abby

I’m a film enthusiast, trying to learn everything I possibly can about the world of cinema and cinema criticism. One day, while watching “The Battle of Algiers” in a class on violence and anthropology, I had a realization: violent movies come in all shapes and sizes, and each form of violence seems to have its own accompanying message. I’ve dedicated this blog to a careful examination of cinematic violence as it applies to films, directors and genres, hoping to find out what messages filmmakers try to send through the use of violence, and why we find it so darn appealing.
